Dudhkunda is a sacred lake situated at 4400 meters high. Dudhkunda means, ‘milk lake’, name given due to his white colour.

This lake is situated between beautiful mountains in the region of #solukhumbu. The famous mountain Numbur is just above the lake. This area is really remote a natural. It is a very good place for trekking in depth through nature.

This lake is famous across all Nepal for religious purpose. For Hindus, It is the residence of Lord Shiva. Local people celebrate a festival there in special day #janaipurnima, in the month of August. In this festival, local people use to come for worship there as well lots of Shamans also use to come. A religious belief is that, if the shaman worship there in Dudhkunda they can get lots of “magic power”.

The shaman use to wear traditional special dresses for these kind of events. They use to play double sided drum and platter as well they communicate with the spirits in shaman’s language. Really impressive to see such procession. Local people also pray with god for long life, good future and Nepal is a country of agricultural so that, people use to pray for cow.

The history and construction of the square is not clearly known. However, the Lalitpur Malla Kings were said to be the main source for establishing many changes in this square.This is an UNESCO heritage site too.

Prior to that, this square was just a crossroad. Prior to the settlement of Malla Kings, the region was under the control of Pradhanas.

Architecture of Durbar Square
Most of the temples and monuments in this Square were built in 17th century. Most of the current architecture is from the 1600s.This Square was considered as the center of Hinduism and Buddhism. It had 136 courtyard in the past, containing more than 55 temples. Today, only a handful stands with the passage of time. Each temple and monument has different architectural style to portrait the cultural importance of the religion. Most of the structures have a hint or are completely built in Shikara Architecture.

Most significant material used is the stone. However, wood structures are very common here. The type of wood used is unique. After the earthquake, the restoration team spent a considerable amount of time in preparing the same type of wood used during the ancient times. The square floor is tiled with red bricks.

A short but steep hike of 4.5 kms from the stunningly beautiful Chopta Valley in Garhwal Himalayas takes you to Tunganath Shiva temple at an altitude of 12,074 feet. It is known to be the highest Shiva temple in the world.

The trail and the slopes are covered in thick blanket of snow in the winter months and the arrival of spring season turns it into a place dotted with densely stunning rhododendron flowers in shades of red and pink, both on the trees and the walking trail (fallen ones).
While the rhododendrons do not survive beyond 4 weeks, the arrival of summer season followed by the monsoons, turns the slopes into velvety green interspersed with wild mountain flowers in riot of colours.
